HLTAID009 Provide CPR

This course provides the skills to recognise and then manage a casualty who is unconscious and not breathing. (Previously HLTAID001)

This course provides the skills to recognise and then manage a casualty who is unconscious and is not breathing. CPR is a lifesaving technique which can sustain life until an ambulance arrives. It is recommended, by the Australian Resuscitation Council, that a CPR refresher program is undertaken every 12 months.

This course provides you with the practical skills to perform CPR, according to the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.

  • CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface
  • Responded appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
  • Managed the unconscious breathing casualty

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

This course covers a broad range of topics to enable participants to confidently manage emergency situations.

This course covers a broad range of topics to enable participants to confidently manage emergency situations, providing care for the ill or injured until medical aid arrives. It is suitable for workplaces and members of the public who want training in first aid. It also provides the skills to recognise and then manage a casualty who is unconscious and is not breathing.

The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid qualification is valid for three years. It is recommended, by the Australian Resuscitation Council, that a HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) program is undertaken every 12 months. Most workplaces require a specific number of people to be trained in this qualification.

HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first air in response to infants, children, and adults. (Previously HLTAID004)

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults. It applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies. 

This unit of competency may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).

Specific licensing requirements, including requirements for refresher training, should be obtained from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and/or relevant state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authority. CPR is a lifesaving technique which can sustain life until an ambulance arrives. It is recommended, by the Australian Resuscitation Council, that a CPR program is undertaken every 12 months.

It applies to workers who may be required to provide, coordinate, and manage a first aid response across a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

Describes the skills required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines. (Previously HLTAID007)
Pre-Requisite Unit
All students completed hltaid015 must hold a current and valid hltiad011. You will need to provide a copy of this certificate prior to attending the course.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. This unit applies to workers who may be required to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation in a range of complex situations, include community and workplace settings. It is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council that the program is undertaken every 12 months.

Pre-Course Learning

Our course is blended with a pre-course theory component which will be mailed out to you. This must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face component of the course.

Course Time

Face to face training is approx. 30 hours and starts at 9am.

What you will need to bring

Please bring some paper and a pen if you wish to take notes. You are welcome to bring your lunch, or you can purchase it at the Club.

What should I wear?

Please wear clothes that will enable you to conduct CPR on the floor.

Assessment

There are both theory and practical assessment in this course to ensure that you have gained the required knowledge and ability to perform the skills in this unit.

Assessment Methods: 

  • Multiple choice questions
  • Practical demonstrations/skills observations
  • Short answer questioning
  • Completion of an incident report

It is a requirement of this course that practical demonstration of CPR must be performed for 2 minutes on the floor.
