This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to confirm collection requirements, prepare client and equipment and collect specimens via urine and/or oral and breath testing following the special procedures that apply for drugs of abuse testing.

This unit applies to individuals working in collection centres, in hospitals, in other health care environments and workplaces where drugs of abuse testing takes place.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Pre-Course Learning

Our course is blended with a compulsory pre-course theory component. Once you have registered for your course, a Student manual and the pre-course assessment paperwork will be emailed to you. This must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face component of the course. You will need to bring it with you on the day for the Trainer to mark.

Course Time

Face to face training is approx. 5 hours

Estimated time required for the pre-course workbook is up to 3 hours.

This course covers the performance of rescue procedures from live Low Voltage (LV) apparatus, not including overhead lines and underground cables in the workplace.

This course specifies the mandatory requirements of rescue from a live LV panel and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution, or rail work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for, health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.

Emergency procedures for the rescue of a victim from a live LV panel encompassing:

  • Inspection of rescue equipment
  • Assessing hazards to rescuer, victim, and others
  • Isolation procedures where appropriate
  • Knowledge of Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s) appropriate to rescue from a live LV panel
  • Involvement of external emergency services

 

Emergency procedures for the skills required for the rescue of a victim from a live LV panel encompassing:

  • Placement of rescue equipment
  • Controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s) appropriate to rescue from a live LV panel
  • Practical demonstration of rescuing a person
  • Removing victim to safe location / place of safety

 

On Successful Completion of the Course, You Will Receive:

  • First Aid Manual
  • A PDF Statement of Attainment showing you have fulfilled the requirements of (course code/s details)

Assessment

There are both theory and practical assessment in this course to ensure that you have gained the required knowledge and ability to perform the skills in this unit.

It is a requirement of this course that practical demonstration of CPR must be performed for 2 minutes on the floor.

PUAEME008 Provide Pain Management

The application of this unit in the workplace covers the administration of restricted pain relief such as analgesics and aspirin, according to a medically endorsed protocol.
Pre-Requisite Unit
All students completing PUAEME008 must hold a current and valid HLTAID011. You will need to provide a copy of this certificate prior to attending the course.

This course is typically relevant for personnel from emergency services and/or volunteer organisations or organisations that provide a medically supervised first aid service.

PUAEME005A Provide Pain Management Includes:

Required Skills

  • Communicate with casualty to provide comfort and instruction in use of analgesic drugs as required
  • Complete written logs and documentation
  • Request for an ambulance and/or medical assistance according to relevant circumstances and report casualty condition
  • Use literacy and numeracy skills as required to read, interpret and apply guidelines and protocols

 

Required Knowledge

  • Contraindications and precautions for the use of analgesic drugs
  • Organisational permits for the use of restricted analgesic drugs
  • Organisational protocols and standard operating procedures covering the storage and administration of restricted drugs
  • Relevant legislation covering the storage and administration of restricted drugs
  • Safety procedures for the operation of pressurised gases as relevant to available analgesics
  • State/territory regulatory requirements for the currency of skills and knowledge

 

On Successful Completion of the Course, You Will Receive:

  • First Aid Manual
  • A Laminated certificate showing a Statement of Attainment in PUAEME005A Provide Pain Management.
